What's your relationship to the Earth?

Posted on Apr 24th, 2007 by Sandra : Inspirational Ambassador Sandra
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for April 22, 2007:

So it is Earth week here on Zaadz. I wondered what I had to add that is not already here in such abundance? And what can I do to support the earth? How am I green?

Yes, I can most definitely be more aware of what is going on ecologically; I can become more aware of how and where I shop, what I do and do not throw out as 'garbage'; I can be more mindful about the lights I leave on, the food I eat, etcetera and take action accordingly.

And then what comes to me is awareness itself.

If I am truly aware of this - whatever this is - there is awareness of connectedness,  then things like where I shop are not just ideas I put into action because I think it's the "right" thing to do, but a direct response from heart, from source.

We are the universe, the earth, all that is. If we truly experience this, then everything we do, think, feel comes into question -- everything. We are then fully aware that we responsible for all that is, for we are all that is. Then being 'green' is not a merely statement,  a belief or political stand. It is not an idea, but simply the natural, the only, way to be.

The Headless Way of Douglas Harding is a beautiful and very simple teaching to support this awareness. On the website there are several clear and short experiments which can encourage a 'direct experience' of who you are. Have a look at the pieces from Harding's book The Hierarchy of Heaven and Earth  (commentary by Richard Lang), which go deeply into this question: Who Are You? from all points of view: person, cell, humanity earth, galaxy and the whole.

"Your attempt at complete self-knowledge is doomed to failure.
On the other hand at Centre you are not a thing separate from other things, you are No-thing. You do not hold anything here apart from the world there. From this point of view the universe is not divided into two, into knower and known. All of the world is all there, here in this empty Receptacle. Here you vanish in favour of everything in the sense that each individual object found in this Receptacle is, implicitly and when completed, the Whole. Thus you find Wholeness by losing not gaining, by returning from the periphery to the Centre where alone the Whole reveals itself – by returning to that mysterious place where No-thing explodes into Everything."
